When purchasing a new vehicle, it is important to go over all of the necessities before making the big purchase. One of these necessities is the style of the vehicle. Those who are looking for a smaller vehicle will often consider purchasing either a hatchback or a sedan as both styles are similar. Some models, like the Ford Focus, are made as both hatchbacks and sedans. This was done due to popular demand. One can now drive around Costa Mesa in a hatchback or sedan version of the Ford Focus.

Both styles of vehicles have their own sets of pros and cons. As a driver, it is important to know what these positive and negative aspects are. This allows the driver to make the best decision possible and purchase the right vehicle for him or herself.

Positive Aspects of Purchasing a Hatchback

There are a number of positive aspects to purchasing a hatchback. One of the main reasons that hatchbacks have become so popular is their practicality. Hatchbacks offer a large amount of cargo storage. Many hatchback models offer folding rear seats, making them convenient for traveling or carrying large loads.

Another positive aspect to purchasing a hatchback is it will maintain more of its value. Hatchbacks are often in high demand, making them more valuable to drivers. This means that a driver will most likely get more of a return on their investment with a hatchback.

Negative Aspects of Owning a Hatchback

The one major negative aspect to hatchbacks is that they are prone to theft. Hatchback back doors come with a window that looks into the trunk. This means that it can be difficult to hide valuable items from thieves.

Positive Aspects of Purchasing a Sedan

Although they do not offer as much storage as a hatchback, sedans have their own unique benefits. One of the biggest reasons why people like sedans is due to their aesthetic appeal. They are sleek and professional looking vehicles that can be utilized during a variety of occasions. Sedans don’t feature windows looking into the trunks. This makes it impossible for thieves to know what is behind the door.

Negative Aspects of Purchasing a Sedan

Despite the aesthetic appeal that sedans have, many drivers have a hard time getting over the lack of space. The modern driver asks a lot out of his or her vehicle, and convenient amounts of space are one of the new demands.

There are tons of age-old questions that we as humans haven’t been able to figure out. “What came first, the chicken or the egg?,” “What is the meaning of life?,” and most recently, “What is the better vehicle, a hatchback or sedan?”. Unfortunately, there are no answers to any of these questions. But, as far as the hatchback sedan debate goes, it truly comes down to personal preference.
