Ford Explorer

Explorer

A full-size, three row crossover, the Ford Explorer has a strong history of being one of the top sellers in its class. In addition, it is one of the largest passenger vehicles Ford has to offer.

Introducing the Ford Explorer

The Ford Explorer first came around in 1991, with the name originally being used for a trim before replacing the Bronco. Originally, it was based on a truck-style ladder frame, but switched over to a unibody crossover for its fifth generation. The latest generation came out in 2011, and got a major facelift in 2016. Nowadays, it stands out for its style and infotainment options.

The Ford Explorer Today

The 2018 Ford Explorer made a few minor adjustments, including a new grille, fog lights, some new paint options, and five wheel choices.

There are three engine options to choose from for the 2018 model, starting with the standard 3.5-liter V-6 base engine making 290 hp and 255 lb-ft of torque. The other two options are a turbocharged 2.3-liter EcoBoost I-4 with 280 hp and 310 lb-ft or a twin-turbo 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6 making 365 hp and 350 lb-ft. All these options come with a six-speed automatic, and have both front-drive and all-wheel options.

There are five trims to choose from: the base model, XLT, Limited, Sport, and Platinum, the top of the line option. Some of your feature options include: cloth or leather seating surfaces, a twin-panel moonroof, heated and cooled seats, a heated steering wheel, and a 12-speaker Sony premium audio system.

The 2018 model also adds a potential 4G LTE modem and Wi-Fi hotspot. The new Safe and Smart safety suite includes several different innovations. Keep out of accidents with collision warning emergency braking, cross-traffic warnings, and blind-spot warnings. Get a little help with your driving with features like lane keeping, rain-sensing wipers, adaptive cruise control, and automatic high-beams

If you’re still pondering buying Ford, note that the next generation of Explorers is coming out next year, so there are likely to be a lot of changes. This may make now the time to get one if you like this model as it is.
