There comes a time where everyone needs a break. Mom and Dad need a break from work and the kids need a break from the pressures of school. It doesn’t necessarily mean you need to take a full blown vacation but a great day trip can be a great way to blow off some steam. When you live in Orange County, California, you definitely have some options. You can hop in your Ford Fusion in Costa Mesa and have some great fun at some great places.

1. Knott’s Berry Farm is a theme park located in Buena Park, California. It has everything that you want at a theme park like roller coasters, family rides, family and kid inspired attractions, and water slides. This park was built on the former site of the Knott’s family berry farm. It got its meager start as the family’s roadside farm stand that sold the family’s pies, jams, and other berry inspired products. As time went on, they added shops, restaurants, and other attractions. They started charging admission fees in 1968 and they began their relationship with the “Peanuts” characters in 1983. The family sold the park in the 90s to Cedar Fair and the food products to Smuckers after the death of their parents.
2. Orange County is a hub for the surfing culture. The roots of surfing go back thousands of years to the ancient Polynesians but only a little over a hundred years as a sport. The International Surfing Museum is located in Huntington Beach and was established in 1987 as a non-profit museum to pay homage to the sport. They have exhibits for dedications to legendary surfers and exhibits that display the progression of surf boards over the decades. It is dedicated to Duke Kahanamoku, who is widely accepted as the person who popularized surfing into the modern sport that it is today.
3. One of the best parts of Orange County are the beaches. They are world renowned and picturesque. The Newport pier is a great place to hang out in the California sun and smell the fresh ocean air. It is a 1,032 foot long pier that replaced the McFadden Wharf in 1939 after a hurricane. It is a great place to do some shopping, fishing, and enjoying the fun of the beach.

Pack some lunch in the trunk of the Fusion and hit the road. You won’t have to go far to find a fun time in and around Orange County. You can take a day to make some memories with the family and forget about the stresses of life. If you get too caught up in life, you forget to stop and smell the roses every once in a while.
