Saying Goodbye to The Ford Focus

Focus

Earlier this year, the Ford Focus sedan rolled off the Michigan Assembly Plant for the last time, in a way that doesn’t really seem like a fitting farewell to a car that’s been so popular for so long. For example, other Ford cars and other models have had a lot of fanfare and celebration to go, but there wasn’t any TV crews or final photos in this case. Also being retired at the same time was the C-Max.

"While we have no intention of giving up our longtime truck leadership, we are creating a new Ford in North America on a foundation of small, fuel-efficient cars and crossovers that will set new standards for quality, fuel economy, product features and refinement," Mark Fields, then-president of the Americas, said all the way back in 2008. With this said, statistically, things may have been written on the wall for the Focus for a while. The car is popular, but sales have been decreasing since hitting its peak in 2012. For the C-Max, things fell a lot further. The sales hit a max of 35,210 in 2013, and have fallen by half since then.

Note that the Ford Focus ST and other upcoming cars may not be coming stateside, but that doesn’t mean that the car is off the market completely. Older models, used cars, and other variants of this popular car are still available. If you’re making a decision, you want to partner with a dealership that has your needs and best interests in mind. Could The Next Ford Focus ST Go Manual-Only?

Focus

There’s a lot of appeal when it comes to a Ford Focus, the Ford Focus ST included. As hatchbacks go, a lot of its appeal comes from its accessibility as well as how fun it is to drive. However, as appealing as the Ford Focus ST is right now, it’s a manual-only option, and according to news from Ford, it doesn’t look like that’s going to change for the next generation of cars either.

The news comes from a report from Autocar, and while there isn’t any formal confirmation that this is the case, it’s worth noting because it means that it will be one of the few cars out there that doesn’t have an automatic transmission option. The recent Autocar report brings some other pieces of note when it comes to the next Ford Focus ST as well. Previous claims that there would be a three-cylinder Focus ST were inaccurate, apparently. Now, the rumor mill says that we can expect a 2.3-liter turbo-four engine, similar to the one currently found in the Ford Focus RS.

While this hasn’t been formally confirmed, similar to the claims about the manual transmission, experts and speculators note that this makes a lot of sense. For example, a 275-hp turbo-three is great on paper but may not have a lot of practical use for the Ford Focus audience, which is looking for a more reliable type of vehicle.
